A try at geodesic framing
As most of the kids, I’ve always enjoyed building little cabins in the woods. Growing up as a curious teenager, I realised I had to bring it to the next level. And it was geodesic construction. It enables you, with very limited ressources, to bring to life such strong and interesting structures.
︎︎︎ Geodesic construction is a building process that use a mesh of triangles to create dome-like frames. It was popularized by Richard Bukminster Fuller in the early 50’s. It is mostly used nowadays on greenhouses constructions.
The complete 5m diameter structure, was build and assembled in only one day.
It was made with red oak-wood from a local sawmill.
As fast assembled sructures, geodesic domes are perfect to hold little gatherings. They are light, have a limited impact on the landscape, and are much more wind-proof than regular tents.
Final assembly on a proper deck to become a permanent backyard cottage.
